OpenAI Retires GPT-4o, Tennessee Bans AI Therapists

Robert HattalaApril 3, 2026

GPT-4o Is Officially Dead

OpenAI pulled GPT-4o from every plan as of April 3rd. The model that defined 2024 for a lot of people is gone. If your app still had GPT-4o hardcoded, today was a bad day.

The pace of model deprecation keeps accelerating. We went from years of GPT-3.5 availability to months of GPT-4o. Plan accordingly and abstract your model calls.

Tennessee Says No to AI Therapists

Governor Bill Lee signed SB 1580, making it illegal to deploy any AI system that presents itself as a qualified mental health professional. First state to draw this line explicitly.

I think this is the right call. AI can support mental health workflows. But pretending to be a licensed therapist crosses a line that most builders should not want to cross anyway.

ChatGPT Rolls Into Apple CarPlay

OpenAI shipped ChatGPT to Apple CarPlay. Hands-free voice conversations while you drive. The car is becoming the next big AI interface, and OpenAI just grabbed that real estate before Google or Apple could lock it down with their own models.

Quick Hits

Salesforce turned Slackbot into a full autonomous work assistant with 30 new AI features. Cohere dropped Transcribe, an open-source speech recognition model supporting 14 languages that runs on consumer hardware. California's governor ordered agencies to draft AI contract standards covering child safety, civil rights, and surveillance. And the agentic AI market hit $7.51 billion, growing at 27.3% CAGR. The agents are not coming. They are here.
